“The club can confirm that we have activated the extension of the Toby Alderweireld contract,” Tottenham said in a statement.
Alderweireld, the Spurs defense rock, was the focus of local rival Manchester United last season after refusing to extend his long-term contract.
The Belgian defender has managed to reserve a key position in the squad this season, taking advantage of injured compatriot Jan Vertungen and Colombian Davinson Sánchez.
