Mainz vs Arminia Bielefeld Prediction & Match Preview

Mainz 05

Arminia Bielefeld

03 April 2021 14:30 UK/ 15:30 CET Bundesliga Opel Arena

Opel Arena will host Saturday’s football match between Mainz and Arminia Bielefeld, the two relegation-threatened teams.

Mainz have been showing signs of improvement of late, and they must be high on confidence following back-to-back wins over Freiburg and Hoffenheim.

Die Nullfunfer recorded three wins in the previous four home games, which is surely giving fans a reason for optimism ahead of the visit of Arminia Bielefeld.

Die Arminen, on the other hand, have been totally unpredictable in the 2020/21 season.

Frank Kramer’s men did well to beat Bayer Leverkusen in their last away game, but given Mainz’s current form, we believe that punters can find value in betting on the home team.

Amos Pieper is banned for the visitors, while Fabian Klos, Cedric Brunner, Mike van der Hoorn, and Ritsu Doan are all sidelined with injuries. As for the hosts, Vieira is the only absentee ahead of Saturday’s clash.

Team News:

Mainz have been handed a huge boost by the news that Danny da Costa is set to be fit and available for Saturday's game after he was forced off with a hamstring problem in the win over Hoffenheim.

Da Costa's arrival on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt in January has coincided with the club's upturn in form as the German has contributed both offensively and defensively at right wing-back.

It could mean that Svensson names an unchanged team, although Quaison could be in contention for a first start since recovering from a recent knee injury that has limited him to substitute appearances over the last month.

Amos Pieper is suspended for Bielefeld after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against RB Leipzig, with Mike van der Hoorn expected to replace him in the centre of defence.

Ritsu Doan, who is Arminia's top scorer and netted against Mainz in December, should be available to feature after not appearing for Japan over the international break due to concussion.

Jacob Laursen is likely to replace Anderson Lucoqui at left-back after returning to full fitness following a thigh problem.
