Barcelona vs Elche Prediction & Match Preview

24 February 2021 19:00 CET La Liga Camp Nou

Following an embarrassing 1-1 draw with Cadiz, Barcelona will be looking to return to winning ways in La Liga when they take on Elche in a postponed fixture.

The Catalan outfit failed to turn their dominance into more goals in the draw with the Yellow Submarine, and, as a result, they are now five points behind their bitter rivals Real Madrid in the standings.

This has to go down as a must-win game for the hosts, and we are positive that they will go all guns blazing at Elche.

All Fati, Coutinho, and Sergi Roberto remain in the recovery room, while Araujo is rated doubtful for the match. Los Franjiverdes, on the other hand, desperately needed a win against Eibar, and they managed to get one thanks to Dani Calvo’s goal.

The relegation strugglers regained a much-needed confidence, but given the importance of Wednesday’s match for Barcelona, home win should be considered. Ivan Marcone is banned for the visitors.

Team News:

Koeman continues to make do without a quartet of absentees in Ansu Fati, Philippe Coutinho, Ronald Araujo and Sergi Roberto, with none of them expected to return to action for a while.

However, with the weekend's trip to Sevilla - who are on their trail - to take into account, it would be a surprise not to see Koeman freshen things up after an underwhelming week.

Oscar Mingueza and Junior Firpo are options for change in the full-back positions, while Miralem Pjanic, Riqui Puig and Trincao will all hope to earn starts this week too.

Elche coach Escriba will immediately be forced into a midfield change as Ivan Marcone is suspended for an accumulation of bookings, so Omenuke Mfulu could deputise.

Diego Gonzalez, Fidel and Jony Alamo are all expected to sit this one out for the visitors, who could also hand Helibelton Palacios his debut at right-back.

Tottenham Hotspur loanee Paulo Gazzaniga is still waiting for his first appearance for the club, but it is unlikely to come at Camp Nou.
