Real Madrid vs Athletic Bilbao Prediction & Match Preview

Real Madrid vs Athletic Bilbao
Spain – Super Cup
Date: Thursday, 14 January 2021
Kick-off at 20:00 UK/ 21:00 CET
Venue: Estadio La Rosaleda.

Estadio La Rosaleda will host the Spanish Super Cup semifinal between Real Madrid and Athletic Club.

Real Madrid failed to beat Osasuna on a frozen pitch, with the capital club facing difficulties on their return to Madrid as well.

Los Blancos are eager to return to winning ways, and we are positive that they will go all guns blazing at Athletic Club in Thursday’s showdown.

The likes of Jovic and Rodrygo remain in the recovery room, but the good news for Zinedine Zidane is that right-back Dani Carvajal returns from suspension.

Midfielder Isco is pushing for a start, as well as left-back Marcelo. The Lions, on the other hand, were not in action at the weekend as their clash against Atletico Madrid was postponed.

The Basques did well to make it to the Copa del Rey final last term, but we do not believe that they are capable of beating Real Madrid in the

Super Cup semis as los Blancos are desperate to get back on course. Both Yeray and Yuri are rated doubtful for the Estadio La Rosaleda clash.

Team News:

Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal would have been eligible to play this match after serving a suspension against Osasuna, but the Spaniard is expected to miss out here with a muscular injury.

Lucas Vazquez is therefore set to continue at right-back, and not many changes are expected from the goalless stalemate at the weekend, but Federico Valverde is vying for a start in midfield.

Luka Jovic's muscular problem is likely to keep him out of this game as well, but the striker - who is reportedly desperate to leave - would have struggled to displace Karim Benzema up top.

Athletic have a couple of injury concerns to contend with as well, starting with left-back Yuri Berchiche, who is a major doubt after being forced off in the first half against Barcelona with a thigh problem.

Yeray Alvarez could be given the green light to return here but it would be a surprise to see him risked from the first whistle, so Unai Nunez should keep his place alongside Inigo Martinez in the heart of defence.
