Copa Del Rey
Date: Wednesday, 27 January 2021
Kick-Off at 20:00 UK /21:00 CET
Venue: Estadio de Vallecas

After recording a routine 2-0 win over Elche, Barcelona will be looking to give fans yet another reason for celebration when they take on Rayo Vallecano in the Copa del Rey last 16.

Leo Messi has served a two-match ban, and he is likely to play some part in Wednesday’s clash. The likes of Coutinho, Fati, Pique, and Roberto are all out of contention with injuries.

Los Vallecanos, on the other hand, defeated Elche in the previous round of the Spanish Cup, and they are eager to claim yet another major scalp.

However, away win should be considered as Leo Messi returns to contention.

Rayo experienced all sorts of problems at the back in the Segunda Division defeat to Mallorca (1-3), which is yet another reason why we are tempted to put our money on the Catalan giants.

In their last meeting in a competitive match Barcelona defeated Rayo Vallecano 3-1.

Team News:

Vallecano lost central defender Emiliano Velazquez to injury against Mallorca - by which point they had already shipped three goals - and he will certainly miss out here.

Esteban Saveljich should therefore take his place in the backline for Iraola, who himself was sent off at the weekend for protesting.

Meanwhile, wantway Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi is back for this game after serving a two-game suspension for his red card against Athletic Bilbao, and it would not be a surprise to see him make an immediate return with Antoine Griezmann due a rest.

Sergino Dest shook off a minor injury to make the bench against Elche and could earn a start this week, and the 20-year-old's fellow right-back Sergi Roberto is not thought to be too far away from a return to action.

Miralem Pjanic, Clement Lenglet and Junior Firpo will all hope to return to the side, while Puig will hope to have done enough to earn just his second start of the season in all competitions.
