PSG vs Lorient Prediction & Match Preview

PSG vs Lorient
France – Ligue 1
Date: Wednesday 16th December 2020
Kick off at 20:00 UK/ 21:00 CET
Venue: Parc des Princes (Paris).

Paris Saint-Germain will be looking to bounce back from a heart-breaking loss to Olympique Lyon when they host Lorient at their Parc des Princes.

The capital club do not seem to be at the top of their game ahead of the midweek fixture, but they are still seen as hot favourites to beat Lorient.

Kylian Mbappe, who was rested in the 1-0 loss to les Gones, is widely expected to return to the starting XI.

Les Merlus, on the other hand, did well to beat Nimes 3-0 at home in their last league fixture, but they will have a much bigger fish to fry against the reigning champions.

Given the importance of the match for the hosts, we are positive that the visitors are going to return home empty-handed from the trip to Paris. In their last meeting in the “City of Lights” PSG crushed Lorient 5-0.

Team News:

Neymar's initial assessment of his ankle injury on Monday showed optimistic results, but further examinations will be required before it can be determined how long the attacker will be sidelined for.

The Brazil international will definitely miss out here though, as will Abdou Diallo, who is set to remain in the treatment room until the new year with a hamstring problem he sustained in the same game.

Marquinhos's hip problem kept him out of the loss to Lyon and he remains a doubt here, and while Julian Draxler is getting closer to a comeback, Mauro Icardi and Pablo Sarabia remain out.

Kylian Mbappe should slot straight into Neymar's place on the left-hand side, while Idrissa Gueye, Thilo Kehrer and Rafinha could all be in line for starts, but Colin Dagba is suspended.

Lorient defender Julien Laporte will be unavailable for this one as he undergoes an MRI scan on an unspecified injury, while the versatile Jonathan Delaplace is touch and go.

The veteran Jerome Hergault could replace Delaplace at right-back if he misses out, while Houboulang Mendes and Matthieu Saunier will not be back until 2021.

Paris Saint-Germain possible starting lineup:
Navas; Florenzi, Kimpembe, Kehrer, Kurzawa; Gueye, Verratti, Rafinha; Di Maria, Kean, Mbappe

Lorient possible starting lineup:
Nardi; Hergault, Gravillon, Morel, Le Goff; Monconduit, Lemoine, Le Fee; Lauriente, Hamel, Wissa
