Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been named European Footballer of the Year by UEFA after he made a major contribution to the Champions League last season.
The trio of Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus) and Virgil van Dyck (Liverpool), were nominated for the award.
Lyon and England defender Lucy Bronze also won the European Footballer of the Year award, beating Norwegian Ada Higerberg and France's Amandine Henry.
