"We are interested in him," Hoeness told the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

"The former Schalke player is a potential candidate for Bayern, who is looking to strengthen his attacking line after he has strengthened his line of defense," Hoeness said after a report on the Kicker website.

The reports indicated that Bayern was interested in Sané in 2016, before joining the Man City from Schalke for 50 million euros.

Sane, 23, is the player Bayern bosses have earmarked to replace outgoing veteran duo Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

With just two years left on his contract, and with Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez as Guardiola’s preferred options in the wide positions, Man City are ready to sell at the right price - but not below their valuation.

Last week, the City boss addressed Sane's future and explained Man City have been working for over a year, without success, to get him to agree a new deal.
