Barcelona’s Lionel Messi has been awarded the Golden Boot for the top scorer in Europe for the fifth time in his career after beating Egyptian Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) and Harry Kayne (Tottenham Hotspur).
Messi scored 34 goals in 68 games last season, retaining the 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2017 trophy to miss the winning streak he shared with Cristiano Ronaldo, who moved from Real Madrid to Juventus this year.
Ronaldo has won the award four times (2015 alone, 2008, 2011 and 2014 with fellow Messi Uruguayan Luis Suarez).

“I really did not have the idea of getting this with me when I started playing,” Messi said after receiving the Golden Boot in Barcelona. “I dreamed of playing football professionally and achieving success. I love the game, but I never imagined that I would achieve that. ).
“I enjoy the work, and with the effort, I am in the best team in the world and I play with the best colleagues in the world, so everything is easier,” he said at the ceremony, attended by Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomio and players such as Sergio Busquets and Sergio Roberto.
